Rubrics are an assessment process utilizing a set of guidelines and expectations (often laid out as a grid of standards and ratings), to apply a grade and evaluate student work. The Rubric method can be used in many disciplines, and is especially useful for multi-faceted, cross discipline subjects, such as visual arts.
