I thought this was a poetic way to address getting stuck and pushing forward in artmaking...
"One day I went to the mountain alone. At first I could not climb; I
lay flat on my face with the slope with the sensation that I was being
completely absorbed by the earth. When I took the first steps up the
slope, I had the physical sensation of walking with tremendous effort
in some matter as thick as mud. Gradually, however, it all became
easier, and in a few days I was able to negotiate jumps. I could climb
vertical walls as easily as any goat. I very seldom got hurt, and I
realized the possibility of a very subtle understanding which I had not
perceived before. Finally, I managed to take no false steps and to
wander around quite easily among the rocks."
—Leonora Carrington

Jane was a great guest speaker. I enjoyed her presentation. Today flew
by and I have a feeling the remaining days will too as we begin to
wander easily among the rocks.

I also appreciated having Jane as a guest artist. I was intriqued with
the juxtapositions of the nineteenth century and the future, the
marionette and the prinmaking, the music and the voice. I began
thinking more about collaboration.
Just an aside, my nickname "Willow" is taken from the name of the
street where I lived as a child--- just a few houses away from Ellen
Dricoll, Jane's co-producer. It was a neighborhood which did indeed
inspire the historical imagination.
Sincerely All of Yours,
Marsha

What an amazing day it was today! I hope that they all don't fly by so
fast. I finally found the quote that I've been searching for.
Unfortunaly however it is not in the form that I wanted to share with
you. That piece is locked up in my stock room at school. But at least
you can read this quote and think about it. In all object making, that
aspect which relates to its conceptual interpretation is ART, that
which relates the object to an intednded purpose is DESIGN, & the
qualulty of its execution is CRAFT. - Hella Basu
Hella Basu was an English calligrapher and this quote is attributed to
her. I hope that you enjoy thinking about it. I'd love to talk with
anyone about it in class if they would like to. Steven
