This workshop (held Saturday, November 13th at Massart) will feature an overview of AEContent and focuses on interdisciplinary art and artists. There will be a demonstration of the Massart curriculum “One Day in the Life of Leonardo DaVinci” which uses Leonardo’s explorations and experiments into the arts and science as a starting point for exploring visual arts. Drawing from the arts, science, history and technology, this course is based on the idea that curiosity is the foundation of every creative process and experiment. An open discussion on interdisciplinary curriculum development will follow, building on some of the ideas presented in the demonstration. read more for resource links
Artists have often used new technologies and the sciences to inform their work and create their art. Innovations change not only how artists make art but why they make it at all. Likewise, the sciences have benefited from the careful observation and documentation that artists make of the natural world. It is said that domains are but an affectation of academia and governance. Effective interdisciplinary curriculum can bridge the artificial separation of domains while providing alternative avenues for learning. The student who has trouble with fractions may understand them better when looking at the microscopic images of snowflakes or playing with a fractal generator. A study of the natural sciences is always enhanced by observational drawing.
There are many excellent resources online exploring the intersections of nature, science and art. A quick search through the AEContent database will turn up good content sources and artist exemplars.
Here are three additional jumping off points:
Digital Art Resources
This list, from the Art and Technology wiki pages lists innovators and arranges new media resources by declarative statement.
Intersections of Art, Technology, Science & Culture
Stephan Wilson’s extensive listings of Information Arts links
Eleanor Ramsay’s Del.icio.us links to Nature, Science and Art
This page features recent links and is part of a “social bookmarks” site that I participate in. From here you can also view related links in my del.icio.us database and that of other users. Note: I update this page all the time, so check back for new links to sites I've found featuring work and ideas that intersect the boundries of Nature, Science and Art
