Drawing from Observation Workshop for Art Educators
Instructor: John MacPhee

Back by popular demand! Explore interactive resources for art educators at AEContent in the morning session. In the afternoon, participate in hands-on drawing exercises designed to engage all your senses and explore creative ways to teach observation drawing to your students. Emphasis on multi-part projects, such as journaling, and inexpensive ideas for the classroom.

Questions to consider:
1. What are some of the purposes and benefits of having students draw from observation? How does observational drawing improve their skills and thinking?

2. Which elements and principles of art are most important in observational drawing? Select five and describe how each is integral to drawing.

3. What are some ways to encourage creativity when you ask students to observe and represent reality?

4. What are some ways to integrate experimentation into observational drawing?

5. What methods could you use to assist students in developing and applying assessments of their own work?
