Title: The Portrait

Grade Level: Drawing & Art Foundations
Objective: You will be able to identify the 3 main portrait views and be able draw a realistic human head. Student will be able to understand the importance of the portrait as a symbol of the time it was crated and as a statement of who the sitter was as a person.

Standards: 1.9 3.8 3.11

 

Strategies:

  • Materials: Photographs of each portrait view sketchbooks
    9x12 white paper #2 and ebony drawing pencils
  • Resources / References:
    Gallery CD: Portrait section prints student samples
  • Text: “Discovering Drawing” handouts
  • Vocabulary: Front View Profile ? view shadow
  • Time Frame: 1 block for each view and final makeup block


Procedure:

1.Introduce view

2.Draw in sketchbook a class face assignment utilizing

  • a.Correct placement of features
  • b.Correctly drawn features
  • c.Shading added to show form
  • d.Face drawn in proportion.

3.Draw a face of your choosing on 9 x12” white paper using information learned with class drawing.
Grading Criteria:

  • 1.Features placed correctly.
  • 2.Features drawn correctly for view presented.
  • 3.Head drawn in correct proportion.
  • 4.Accuracy – likeness to person or photograph.
