Title: The Portrait
Grade Level: Drawing & Art Foundations
Objective: You will be able to identify the 3 main portrait views and be able draw a realistic human head. Student will be able to understand the importance of the portrait as a symbol of the time it was crated and as a statement of who the sitter was as a person.
Standards: 1.9 3.8 3.11
Strategies:
- Materials: Photographs of each portrait view sketchbooks
9x12 white paper #2 and ebony drawing pencils
- Resources / References:
Gallery CD: Portrait section prints student samples
- Text: “Discovering Drawing” handouts
- Vocabulary: Front View Profile ? view shadow
- Time Frame: 1 block for each view and final makeup block
Procedure:
1.Introduce view
2.Draw in sketchbook a class face assignment utilizing
- a.Correct placement of features
- b.Correctly drawn features
- c.Shading added to show form
- d.Face drawn in proportion.
3.Draw a face of your choosing on 9 x12” white paper using information learned with class drawing.
Grading Criteria:
- 1.Features placed correctly.
- 2.Features drawn correctly for view presented.
- 3.Head drawn in correct proportion.
- 4.Accuracy – likeness to person or photograph.
